Completing an internship program with The Washington Center is an investment that will pay dividends for a long time. TWC can open doors for you and expose you to people who can help you create a strong start for your professional life.

The Washington Center is not only a great investment, it’s available at a cost that may be less than you expect. The published program and housing fees are actually only “sticker prices.” A student’s net cost is often comparable to what he or she would pay to earn the same amount of credit on his or her university campus. Even when it’s occasionally a bit higher, it may still be within reach.

Finding Funding In many cases, a large portion of the cost is covered by the tuition you’ve already paid to your college or university. There are also a number of opportunities for private scholarships and state-provided scholarships. Knowing how important an internship with TWC is, a number of donors have contributed funds to support students’ participation. Over 75% of students receive some form of financial assistance beyond their usual campus-based aid.

Follow the steps below to determine the net cost of your internship and to work out the funding.

Step 1: Contact your campus liaison or sponsor to learn more about the ways in which your tuition will be handled when you participate in The Washington Center’s program.

Step 2: Apply to The Washington Center. If financial help is important, indicate this on your application where requested and begin to communicate with the financial aid advisors at financialaid@twc.edu after you’ve been accepted. You may also want to speak with your assigned program advisor about any internship sites that may offer funding to their interns.

Step 3: The Washington Center has some state-specific funding, leadership awards, diversity & honors scholarships, and a number of other private awards. Review the requirements to find the ones you may qualify for, or we invite you to complete the financial assistance inquiry form and one of our financial assistance advisors will be happy to provide you more specific information about the types of financial assistance for which you may qualify. Send in supplemental documentation if so requested in the scholarship’s description.

Step 4: Investigate private scholarship possibilities in your community or on your campus.

Step 5: Talk with your campus financial aid office to explore an increase of your customary loans or financial aid package during your time with The Washington Center.
