Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations

Position Description

The Washington Center is seeking an experienced professional to join the development team as its Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations.  This individual will develop the strategy and tactics to cultivate, solicit and steward contributions from donors and prospects. S/he will own a portfolio of approximately 50−75 current and lapsed donors as well as new prospects that are strategically aligned with The Washington Center’s work. The position will manage all corporate and foundation grant submissions, reporting, and sponsorship benefit fulfillment.

He/she will serve as an internal subject matter expert on corporate and foundation relations throughout the organization and will regularly interact with members of other departments to identify fundraising opportunities, ensure scholarship fulfillment, and steward donors.

This role will also generate corporate revenue for the October Annual Scholarship Dinner and other donor cultivation events throughout the year.  The 400-person Annual Scholarship Dinner includes executives from higher education partners, corporations, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

Essential Functions

Fundraising

  • Work collaboratively with Managing Director to formulate and execute work plans to increase support from corporations and foundations in alignment with TWC’s strategic goals.
  • Evaluate the valuation of TWC’s giving opportunities and standardize donor recognition matrix. 
  • Manage a portfolio of 50−75 donors and prospects with a special emphasis on new and enhanced gifts.
  • Directly solicit five and six-figure asks to meet defined fundraising goals. Secure in-person and phone meetings held alone and with TWC leadership.
  • Submit grant proposals and reports as well as ensure benefit fulfillment.
  • Conduct prospect research and attend related events to grow networks and identify new prospects for key programs and initiatives. 
  • Work closely with Data & Research Coordinator to apply MOVES management to update donor information and track outreach on CRM software.  
  • Develop collateral material to support fundraising initiatives and solicitations including case statements, one-page overviews, grant requests and program reports.  Generate and maintain related donor listings, web pages, and promotional collateral.

Stewardship

  • Collaborate with Advancement colleagues, internal teams and external audiences to engage donors and prospects strategically in TWC programming and events to enhance engagement and the value proposition.
  • Manage calendar of grant reporting and grant application deadlines; collaborating with colleagues on programmatic teams to produce high-quality program reports.
  • Ensure gift allocation and benefit fulfillment working closely with the Gift & Stewardship Coordinator, Finance, and Financial Aid. 
  • Monitor business processes and evaluate areas for efficiencies.

TWC Annual Scholarship Dinner

  • Work collaboratively with Managing Director and Donor Engagement Director to develop creative corporate cultivation and sponsorship opportunities with value-added benefits for donors.
  • Develop prospect lists, qualify prospects and secure sponsorships.
  • Conduct direct outreach to prospects.
  • Ensure benefit fulfillment and event follow-up strategy.

Education and Experience

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered:

  • Bachelor's Degree in communication, marketing, non-profit management or other relevant field. 
  • 7+ years of experience in a fast-paced, high volume development operation with a proven track record of successful proposal writing and grant management.
  • Demonstrated experience meeting ambitious annual targets in previous position(s). 
  • Proven record of directly soliciting and securing five and six-figure corporate & foundation gifts.
  • Experience/compliance with development department protocols and processes (i.e., prospect review).
  • Experience in Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or other database management software.

  • Proficiency in MS Office with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
