From June 16-July 14, TWC welcomed a group of Puerto Rican educators as a part of the annual Pilar Barbosa Program. The group comprised of 25 K-12 public school teachers and administrators brought to Washington, D.C. to learn about federal educational policy, innovative curriculum design and other topics that enhanced the skills of the educators as both leaders in the classroom and advocates for their students.   | View Full Article

Becky Lee, a D.C. lawyer and the founder of a domestic violence nonprofit called Becky's Fund, spoke to the Law and Criminal Justice (LCJ) program about the fight against domestic violence. Ms. Lee became interested in domestic violence after sitting in a college lecture taught by a criminal attorney who specialized in the acquittal of battered women imprisoned for killing their abusers in self defense. | View Full Article

Tara Sonenshine, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, spoke to the International Affairs Program on Monday, July 16th in the Dean Acheson Auditorium at the Department of State. She discussed the importance of making people to people connections between the United States and other countries when holding a position in the field of diplomacy, as well as the role of social media in the Arab Spring revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa.   | View Full Article
