The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) welcomed nearly 500 interns to Washington, D.C. during their two-day fall orientation on August 30th and 31st at the Residential and Academic Facility (RAF). The threat of Hurricane Isaac could not damper the spirits of the 138 students attending the Republican National Convention Academic Seminar. The students, who travelled from over 60 institutions from across the country to Tampa, Florida, were treated to a brilliant and insightful week of speakers, panels and programming. This summer over 50 TWC students reached out to immigrants in the metropolitan Washington area tutoring young Ethiopians and Latinos, helping Latin American domestic violence victims obtain visas and volunteering at a Hispanic festival. They were all participants of the Immigrant Rights Civic Engagement project.
