Final Reflections

Thursday, December 22, 2011

Happy Holidays!   I managed to fit everything into my suitcases, we scrubbed the apartment, and I am back in Minnesota for Christmas and some much needed rest. Since this will be my last blog for the semester, I want to reflect on my time in DC. Stick with me, I might ramble a little, but there is plenty to reflect on.

Final Projects and Goodbyes

Thursday, December 15, 2011

My final projects and work assignments are done, and I am spending the week at holiday parties or avoiding packing. I can't get enough of my roommates and friends this week, since I know soon I won't be seeing them every day. It is hard to focus on the packing and cleaning that needs to happen, and I keep finding myself buried in piles of un-packed clothes trying to find a way to fit my Belgian roommate into my suitcase, because I would rather bring her home than any of my clothes.

Countdown to Christmas

Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Only 8 days until we move out of the RAF and head home for Christmas. I can't believe how quickly this semester has passed. I have never been this busy and I can't imagine suddenly being done with all of my assignments and requirements, but in just 8 days I will be laying on my couch in Minnesota watching some sort of terrible TV with no homework or need to wake up at 7:30 the next morning. That will be quite the adjustment.

The Busiest Week

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Pre-Thanksgiving Festivities

Sunday, November 20, 2011

I can't believe it is November already! We have less than one month left here in D.C. and so much left to do and explore, I can't even imagine how I will fit it all in. I am begining to piece together my final portfolio (the main project for TWC) and I have to say I think it really will be a great summary of my experiences here, even if it is a lot of work.

Change of Time

Thursday, November 10, 2011

I finally feel like I have adjusted to life here in DC, and it's lucky because these last few weeks are going to be very very full! Just this past week I managed to fit in an informational interview, a meeting with my Representative (Amy Klobuchar), a service event for my Civic Engagement project, a check-in with my program advisor and work supervisor, class, work, programming, and (somehow) sleep! The Washington Center definitely makes sure our time here is filled!

Midterm and Alexandria!

Sunday, October 30, 2011

We are a little over halfway through the semester here in D.C., and this seems to be about the time everyone is getting stressed about how much work we have left to get done. Due dates for our Civic Engagement projects and Portfolios are getting closer, and I'm feeling a little frantic. I will start my volunteer hours at the Washington Animal Rescue League this week and I also have my meeting with my representative (this is something every intern at TWC gets to do).

Taking a Break from the City

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

This weekend I got to go to an apple orchard about an hour outside of D.C.! It's called Stribling Orchard and it is in Markham, Virgina. Luckily, my brother, his wife, and my nephew live here in D.C. and have a car to get us out of the city for a while. I know not many interns bring their cars to TWC, but I would recommend either finding a friend who does or renting a zipcar at least once during your time here.

Walking the City

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Hello everyone! I'm sorry for the delay in posting, I have been sick and stuck in my apartment, which hasn't given me too much to share with you all! I'm finally starting to feel a little better and I've been able to get out and wander the city more.

Every Experience is Different

Friday, September 30, 2011

Before I came to DC with The Washington Center I had no idea what internships would be available to me. I thought I would ask a few of my friends to tell you all a little about their internships this semester so you can get a feel for the variety of options and experiences. I asked them each to list their school, favorite thing about DC so far, and a few sentences about their internship.
