A day at the beach!

A day at the beach!

This past weekend was the first time many of us went to the beautiful beaches of Australia, mainly due to the fact that it is winter, and has been raining almost everyday. We were determined to go swimming at the beach, even in inclement weather, so when we found out it was nice, we were thrilled to say the least.

Upon arrival, we saw the most spectacular view, one in which puts most American beaches to shame. Not only was it one of the most beautiful beaches I had ever seen, but after about 15 minutes of taking in the gorgeous view of the Pacific, we noticed all of the surfers facing the wrong direction, and everyone at the beach looking out towards the ocean. We then saw an amazing sight! One of the largest creatures in the ocean was about 500 yards out at sea. It was a Blue Whale, and even from that distance, it looked enormous. It stayed surfaced for about 5 minutes, then with a swift and magnificent dive, it returned to the depths of the ocean. Many Australians weren’t as impressed as the tourist at the beach, which we obviously were, with our shirts off sun bathing in 65-degree weather.

I didn’t really realize I was sticking out that much, until a group from a local University approached me with the question, “excuse me, are you a tourist.” I didn’t really know what to say to that. Did they want to rob me, and just didn’t care about the covertness of the operation? I didn’t know, and didn’t really care, I was on a vitamin D high, and so I just replied, “yes.”  They then proceeded to ask me if they could take their picture with me. Afterward, I asked them if they were doing this because it is the middle of winter, and I was sunbathing on the beach with my shirt off. They all just laughed and smiled, so I assumed I was correct. After swimming, whale watching, tanning and watching the sunset over the horizon, we went to grab a bite to eat. It was an awesome spot overlooking the ocean, and although the food wasn’t the best, it felt amazing due to the location of the restaurant. After a long and exhilarating Saturday, we finally went home.

We ended up going again the next day… and we took this super legit picture.
