Washington Monument

Washington Monument

This deserves a blog entry in its own right. Anyone coming to DC should go up on the Washington Monument. It is free to do it. You can get up to 6 free tickets at the Washington Monument Lodge, the little white box at the base of the Washington Monument. From there you go past security check,

get into an elevator

go up, up, and up some more...

and voila! You get to the top, and you have a complete panaramic view of Washington DC and beyond.

The Potomac River to the West

A nice view of the State Department Buildings

It's a fun thing to do that shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes if there isn't any line. I recommend it to anyone who wants to improve his or her sense of the geography of Washington DC. Or just anyone who wants an awesome photo shoot. (Note: these pictures were taken on a phone.)
