All In All
Saturday, January 15, 2011Having been back in Texas for nearly a month now I am able to look back on my semester in Washington and "sum it up" in a way. Here is what I have summized:
Blues Alley Jazz Club
Sunday, November 28, 2010I experienced my first actual Jazz Club. And It was awesome.
Things yet undone
Sunday, November 28, 2010Short list of things to do before I leave White House--I am actually going to get to go this time. December 8th. I'll tell Barack hello for you. Rick's Tattoo Shop--referred by an anonymous poster*, apparently the female asian tattoo artist does the best outline of the State of Texas.
The weather outside is....
Sunday, November 28, 2010Pretty normal. For Texas. Coming from a state with notoriously bi-polar weather, I expected DC to be, among other things, my first experience of predictable weather patterns. DC has not obliged. To start, I did not expect the District to be as hot as it was when I got here. Texas hot. It stayed well above 85 degrees well into September.
Observations
Sunday, November 07, 2010Here is an incredibly random list of things that I have learned/observed since moving here:1) One actually can get used to walking past the White House and/or Capitol daily. I never would have thunk it, but it is true. Although I always marvel at their beauty and am often reminded of their importance, the awe has worn off. Kinda.
Musings of a District'er
Sunday, November 07, 2010Yes, I am now referring to myself as a District'er. Two months is long enough, right? I think so. I was berated by a friend that I have not been updating my blog so here goes....
Optimus Prime
Thursday, October 28, 2010We got an email today at work telling us that Transformers 3 would be filming on the streets surrounding our office for the rest of the week. I forgot about it until I walked out and saw Optimus Prime sitting on the street.... Even better, I read this afternoon that a DC cop was not aware that they were filming scenes downtown today. With sirens and lights on, this cop comes busting into a filming sequence and crashes with the yellow camaro. Watch it below!
Mr. Hartman Comes to Washington
Thursday, October 28, 2010My good friend from TCU Jeff came to visit me this past weekend because it was TCU's fall break and I had Monday off for Columbus Day (love the government schedule). On pretty much all accounts, it was the perfect weekend for Jeff to be here, the weather was perfect and we had a lot of stuff planned. When he got here on Friday we went with one of my new friends Karson to a restaurant in the back of an old book store and hung out. Caught up. Saturday was a big day:
The Town
Sunday, October 17, 2010I read an article today in the Washington Post about President Obama's Senior aid David Axelrod. As many of you many know, Axelrod will be leaving Washington in the near future to move back to Chicago to prepare for Obama's next campaign. The article, however, focused on Axelrod's changed view of DC since moving here nearly two years ago. He had this to say:
