Civic Engagement

Leadership Forum & Presidential Lecture Series SnapshotsIt would difficult and a wee bit tedious to go through every Monday programming and Presidential Lecture Series event hosted by The Washington Center. So, instead I am going to give you a snapshot of each session. If you want to get in on the real action, you have to apply! September 13, 2010 – Myers Briggs Type Indicator Workshop

What is Civic Enagement??You know it’s going to be a good day when the Rock the Vote staff says, “I commend you all for coming out this early. Especially considering the night some of you probably had. However, the Halloween Party aftereffects were not present when I arose early Sunday morning to participate in Rock the Vote, "Trick or Vote" in Philadelphia, PA. It's all a part of the many civic engagment opportunites available here at The Washington Center.

International Festival

Where were you last night? If you were in D.C you could’ve been at some club in Georgetown letting the 808 beats hit you as you moved melodically with the speakers pumping the newest song. Or you even could have been at Kevin Hart's show rolling on the floor watching his face contort as he makes fun of the YouTube wonder boy 50 Tyson. All those options are good and fun, and I’m sure a lot of Washingtonians paid their hard-earned money to take advantage of them. But me?

Touring D.C....At Night!

Saturday, October 30, 2010

Touring D.C.. AT NIGHT! So, to take my mind off the hustle and “bustle”, (did you expect flow?), of the week, a couple of TWC interns and I decided to walk the memorials at night. “Smithsonian” is a great Metro to use, but you need to go to L’Enfant to get home at night, if you go on the weekend. So, we began our brisk walk at The Capitol! Take in all of its beauty.... take your time. Really, do. It took me about 20 minutes to take this blurry picture!

16 Hour Ride Long to Joining the TWC 400+ Strong This blog is a my take on being an intern here at The Washington Center. Readers should not base their opinions solely on what they read here. However, this is an inside look on my experiences. So, I hope you will enjoy reading my blog!

Allow me to Introduce Myself!

Monday, October 11, 2010

Hello! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dominique Alford and I am in the Law and Criminal Justice Program of The Washington Center. I am from Conway, Arkansas. Never heard of it? Have you heard of Arkansas? Of course…Bill. *shaking my head* Well, in true southern fashion, its only polite of me to let you know that if you envision a country girl, writing a blog in cowboy boots before she (in my John Wayne voice) ”gets off the horse and heads into the saloon,” you would almost be right...minus the horse, boots and saloon!
