Allow me to Introduce Myself!
Hello! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dominique Alford and I am in the Law and Criminal Justice Program of The Washington Center. I am from Conway, Arkansas. Never heard of it? Have you heard of Arkansas? Of course…Bill. *shaking my head* Well, in true southern fashion, its only polite of me to let you know that if you envision a country girl, writing a blog in cowboy boots before she (in my John Wayne voice) ”gets off the horse and heads into the saloon,” you would almost be right...minus the horse, boots and saloon! This blog chronicles my internship program experience in the heart of Washington, D.C. But first let me introduce the other interns and take a look back.
We received our letters, rocked our phone interviews, gathered items on the TWC list of "things to bring," and now…The Washington Center fall 2010 interns are taking on the capital of the United States! This summer I and hundreds of other Washington Center interns prepared to depart our colleges/hometowns/countries to begin our respective internships centered in Washington, D.C.
Before arriving, I was already connected to students from all over the world via The Washington Center's page on Facebook and, thanks to Mike Giacometti, an intern this fall who attends Westfield State College in Massachusetts, a Facebook group for fall 2010 TWC Interns even emerged!
In the beginning of the summer, we interns prepared by following the instructions on the acceptance letter by:
1. Connecting with the accepted students site.
2. Filling out the housing assignment, if we required TWC Housing
3. Continuously staying in contact with our TWC advisors and Intern Connect
So, it was a busy summer for TWC Interns and we were fully prepared to take on Washington D.C and all it offers by the start of the fall semester. Thanks to TWC, our future is already looking brighter than ever!
New updates are coming soon!!!
