3 Activities for Cold D.C. Weather

Monday, November 13, 2017

After weeks of confusing reports, running back up to the apartment to change clothes, buying umbrellas at a disturbing rate because I never have one when I need it, it is finally official: the cold weather has arrived in D.C.   Although many TWC students feared this moment, my inner Belgian is very excited about this change of temperature. The arrival of the cold winds and rain does not necessarily mean that you should stay in bed all day and hibernate. There are many fun activities to do when the weather turns on you. Allow me to elaborate:

All Around the World With TWC

Monday, October 30, 2017

One of the things I love the most about The Washington Center is that I get to meet people from all around the world. To give you a few numbers: there are 413 participants in the Fall 2017 internship program, with 21 countries represented. When you think about it, that means 20 potential future holiday destinations, not counting your own country! No, but seriously: you have the opportunity to learn so much about other cultures, habits, foods and so on by simply interacting with your fellow students - it could not be easier!

To My Dear Roommates

Monday, October 23, 2017

This week is going to be amazing, because there’s a very special visitor in town: my mom! I was really looking forward to seeing her since I had never been so far away from her before. Now that she’s here, I am obviously very happy to see her, but also at the same time I realized that I hadn’t missed her that much (sorry mommy L).

How to Decorate Your Room at TWC

Saturday, October 14, 2017

Hi everybody! After taking a week off, I am back with a brand new blog post and this time I will be writing about something very important: decorating your apartment. Why is this important, you may ask? Not only is it a fun roommate activity, but I would say that, in general, living in a cozy apartment is a lot more fun than living in what looks like a hotel room.

How to Make Friends and Discover D.C.

Monday, October 02, 2017

I have been in Washington, D.C. for over a month now and am enjoying every single moment of it. However, current TWC students or alumni will know what I am talking about when I tell you that time flies by at an abnormal pace here, which is exactl

3 Ways to Save Money in D.C.

Monday, September 25, 2017

This weekend, my roommates and I celebrated our first month at The Washington Center. We went out for drinks, had brunch at Busboys & Poets, went shopping and basically had an amazing weekend. The only part that sometimes gets to me is seeing all the fun I’m having reflected in my bank account. My money has been disappearing quicker than my roommates when the dishwasher needs to be emptied. Luckily, I came up with a few ways to save my precious green friends.

The Ultimate TWC Packing Guide

Sunday, September 17, 2017

All students at The Washington Center have faced the same challenge while getting ready for this great adventure: packing their suitcase.   Most of us have been through the process of: selecting clothes, packing them, reflecting on your choices, unpacking everything, rethinking your entire life, packing other clothes, having a panic attack and ending up packing the exact same clothes you packed the first time.

Homesick? Go to IKEA!

Saturday, September 09, 2017

Hello readers, welcome back to my blog where I guide international students through the crazy, overwhelming feelings they will get during their stay here in America. This week, I will be talking about a feeling that everybody gets from time to time (if you say that you don’t you are lying, don’t be that kind of person): homesickness.

Living Like an American in D.C.

Monday, September 04, 2017

Hello readers, and welcome to my blog. Before we get started, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Hélène, and I am 23 years old. I live in Brussels, Belgium’s capital and home to the best chocolate, waffles and fries you'll ever taste.
