4 Things I'll Miss About Life in D.C.

Monday, August 07, 2017

It’s great to be home. I haven’t seen many family members for the whole summer, and it’s great to see my local friends after a two-and-a-half-month hiatus. I feel that I have a better appreciation of where I come from, as I learned that a time away from home makes me love it even more. But that goes for D.C. as well. After spending a few days back home, I’ve been reflecting on my summer in D.C., and I’ve been reminiscing about what I enjoyed, and what I’ll miss.

If You Like Piña Coladas . . .

Monday, July 24, 2017

Sweat started to pour down my face as I looked out across the Potomac. The sun peeked out from behind the clouds to beam down on my face, searing my skin with every second. I was almost praying for some kind of breeze to help cool me down. One thing about D.C. in mid-July: it gets hot. I was riding a Capital Bikeshare bicycle down a trail next to the Potomac River, away from Georgetown. I didn’t feel like stopping in the neighborhood - the heat was getting to me.

What I've Learned About My Future

Monday, July 10, 2017

I was talking with my parents the other day, and they asked me what career ideas I'd thought about as a result of my internship in D.C.If I had to boil it down to one sentence, it would be: “I don’t want to go into politics.”

It's Time to Move On

Do you have that typical best friend? The kind that you could confide in, call when you have something important on your mind, or happily join for a nice, casual day out of the house?Well, lucky you . . . my best friend is a total jerk.Grant and I have known each other for six years. We met when I started working at Grand Slam, a small arcade near my house in Philadelphia. Grant was one of the employees. One of the most annoying ones, too.

Salsa with Silvia

Monday, June 26, 2017

This past Saturday, I signed up for a Salsa class at Salsa with Silvia, a dance studio in Columbia Heights. I had never taken a dance class in my life. I hadn’t ever taken an initiative to improve my dancing before. But I had nothing to do last Saturday, so I figured, “What the hell, at least I can say that I tried.”And I’m glad I did try.Class started at 2:15. Around fifteen other people were in attendance. Most of them were couples. All of them were adults, and I was the only college student.

A "Rocky" Introduction to D.C.

Monday, June 12, 2017

At the Museum of Art in Center City, Philadelphia, there are the Rocky Steps. To every Philadelphian (myself included), these steps are a cultural icon for our hometown.Let me tell you why:
