Every Ending Is Another Beginning

Monday, August 14, 2017

I do not think my time in D.C. is short-lived. I truly believe that all that I have learned this summer is now a part of me, and will be with me in the next set of adventures (and there are many)!

Young Leaders of D.C.

Monday, July 31, 2017

Living in D.C. is like living out your imagination. At least, this is the case for people who like to explore the city's historic sites, upscale restaurants and clothing stores.

The Washington Center Difference

Monday, July 24, 2017

When I first found out about The Washington Center (TWC), I was excited to learn that I could potentially spend an entire summer or semester in the nation’s capital. I started my TWC application in the fall, after meeting with a TWC representative who visited my school during a job/internship career fair.

I was rushing around most of the weekend in preparation for the big Fourth of July celebration on Tuesday. The streets were busy, Uber surges were very high, and people were more excited than usual.

Experiencing Jazz in the Garden

Monday, July 03, 2017

After a long week of working and attending classes, nothing compares to Friday nights at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. Every Friday evening, a group of friends and I go to Jazz in the Garden, where local artists perform their music a few hours. Since my arrival in D.C., I have gone to the garden about four times and each time I go, it gets better!

Writing Letters for an NGO

Monday, June 26, 2017

I am so grateful to be interning with Free Muslim Association Inc. Center for De-radicalization and Extremism Prevention. Free Muslim association is a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a direct aim of cleansing the name of Islam from any act of terror, discrimination, or hate speech carried out on the name of religion by local, national, and international terrorist groups.

How You Can Network Anywhere

Sunday, June 18, 2017

Dr. JG turned to me and said “I heard you speaking about your work and interests in international affairs. I do similar work and would be willing to share with you some opportunities in that field. Here is my business card.” Dr. JG’s statement is an example of professional networking. Dr. JG happened to be in the same Uber pool as me that afternoon. On our ride to Takoma, I was talking to a friend about my experiences in D.C., and Dr. JG happened to be listening. An experience like this can happen anywhere, and mine just happened to take place in an Uber.

Make the Most of Every Bite

Sunday, June 11, 2017

How do I please my growling stomach and my wallet at the same time? This is a question that so many interns at The Washington Center have as they prepare to live in D.C. If this is your outlook, please do not worry: D.C. offers a lot of great deals and options for food!
