Interacting With Top Journalists

Interacting With Top Journalists

This past Thursday night, I had the opportunity to travel to New York City for Headlines & Headliners, the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association’s (NLGJA) annual New York fundraiser. For the past several weeks, we had been working hard to prepare for the event. After much anticipation and careful planning, I arrived at Penn Station the morning of the event.

As a nonprofit organization, NLGJA puts on a number of fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for its year-round programming, much of which is devoted to students. Headlines & Headliners is also a great opportunity to network and meet a variety of news executives, journalists, media professionals and educators.

As a communications intern, I spent several weeks working on social media promotion for the event. Once there, however, I had the chance to see a well-planned gala come together in the best way possible.

At Headlines, I had the pleasure of meeting Don Lemon from "CNN Tonight" as well as writers and broadcast journalists from the New York Times, Huffington Post, New York Post, Wall Street Journal, Fox News, NBC, ABC, CNN and many others. Interacting and mingling with so many journalists who do what I am passionate about was a wonderful experience - perhaps my favorite from my whole time as an intern. I certainly won’t be forgetting about it anytime soon.

Until next week,
T
