What I Gained in D.C.

Tuesday, June 06, 2017

It's difficult to condense the plethora of experiences and life lessons from my semester in Washington, D.C., but I was asked to write a reflection piece to wrap up the spring, so here it goes.

At The Washington Center, being an engaged member of the community is a critical part of the program. As a result, there is a five hour direct service requirement for all student interns that must be done outside of their internship site.

D.C.'s March for Science

Monday, April 24, 2017

For Earth Day this year, I marched alongside one of my childhood heroes to stand up for science. That hero is Bill Nye the Science Guy.   A blurry yet awesome picture of Bill onstage

A Midwesterner in D.C.

Monday, April 17, 2017

I'm from Ohio, which is synonymous with things like the Browns, LeBron James, Skyline Chili, crap weather, and using the word "pop" instead of "soda." As somebody who's been a resident since birth, I spend a lot of time throwing shade at Ohio and the people who live there, and - if you've spend 15 minutes there - you'll know why.

Interning With a Small Nonprofit

Monday, April 10, 2017

With less than a month left in my TWC semester, I figured it's about time to write about my internship. This spring, I've been working as an associate at Leadership Africa USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing critical leadership skills to African youth in post-conflict zones.

Not Your Average College Course

Sunday, April 02, 2017

Part of being a student-intern through The Washington Center is taking an evening course once a week. Sorry, you're not allowed to completely forget about school just yet!

Eating Like an Intern

Monday, March 20, 2017

I love food, plain and simple. I'll also be the first to admit that I spend 90% of my funds on said passion, which really takes a toll on my bank account. For all my unpaid young professionals out there trying to ball on a budget, these are recipes for you. No, they don't feature French ingredients with names you have to Google or any rare, expensive spices to blow your weekly Metro fare on.

Last week, people across the globe celebrated International Women's Day, a day for appreciating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also making a call to action to accelerate gender equality. Since 1909, International Women's Day has been a time to recognize and celebrate strong, powerful women, and this year was no exception - especially in Washington D.C.

My Week As A TWC Instagrammer

Monday, March 06, 2017

This week I took over The Washington Center's Instagram account, which allowed me to be a total tourist and to whip out my camera at every possible opportunity. Here's a walk through week five of the Spring 2017 semester!   Day 1:

Planning a TWC Experience? Read This.

Monday, February 27, 2017

Spending one of your last semesters away from school might seem like a premature jump into the foreboding "real-world," but sometimes this is the best decision you can make for yourself as a student and as a future young professional.   If you're a current junior considering an internship with The Washington Center in the coming semesters, I have a few takeaways from my own experience that might make your decision a little bit easier.
