Thank you, Joaquin!

Monday, October 05, 2015

A big thank you to Joaquin for not hitting land this week! We suffered A LOT of rain but it was not any where near as bad as it could have been had the hurricane actually come. Unfortunately, my hometown was hit pretty hard with Hurricane Sandy. About 3 years ago, the bay met the beach inside my living room. Needless to say, it wasn't fun and so the fear of the same thing happening again looming over me made my week a bit more suspenseful than I would have liked. Nonetheless, it was another great week in D.C.!

Cheers to the Pope!

Monday, September 28, 2015

I'm going to start this post out with a shout out to Pope Francis! Because of him, I got off from my internship on Wednesday because the commute would have otherwise been impossible. I don't want to make it seem like I don't enjoy going into work everyday because of course I do but come on! A random unexpected day off in the middle of the week? What more could I ask for?

I Miss Sweatpants

Sunday, September 20, 2015

Yes, I'm dedicating this blog to all the sweatpants I own and cannot wear. Where I'm from, wearing jeans and a nice shirt is considered dressing up. In high school, it was a major accomplishment if I made it to school wearing something other than what I wore to bed or very baggy clothes that I got from various events like the Long Beach Polar Bear Swim or one of my brother's wrestling tournaments.

3 years or 3 weeks?

Sunday, September 13, 2015

I truly cannot believe that I have been here for only 3 weeks. While the time has definitely gone quick, I feel as comfortable as if I have lived here forever. I have the metro system down to a science, I've met people that I know will be in my life forever, and I have learned SO much. One thing I have noticed this past week is that my time here is not going to be all fun and games like it was the first couple weeks. This Sunday is going to be spent food shopping, doing a massive amount of reading, going to Church, and writing this blog.

From Long Beach to NoMa

Monday, September 07, 2015

Hello everyone! I'm Shannon and I'm from a small beach town in New York called Long Beach. I'm a first-semester junior at Hofstra University which is about 25 minutes away from my house. As of last semester, I'm majoring in Political Science with a minor in English. I am super excited for the opportunity to share my journey in Washington D.C. with you guys. When I was thinking about interning through TWC, I literally read every blog post from 2011 to Summer of 2015 that was posted (I'm a loser, I know) to help me decide if I thought it was right for me.
