Thank You

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

I've been home on Long Island now for about 3 days. All I can think about is how grateful I am to have made it through the semester and learned all that I learned. I could not have done it on my own and I owe a lot of my success to the program that allowed all of this to happen.

Sunny and 75

What a week! I finally saw the results of all the work I've been doing all semester in Scottsdale, Arizona at the American Legislative Exchange Council's annual State and Nation Policy Summit. This week was a perfect testament to the amount of opportunities doing an internship with The Washington Center provides for you. They set me up with this amazing think tank that shares all of the same views as me, and allowed me to attend this all week event where I met countless new people and learned so many new things. I was sad the trip had to come to an end.

A Day of Thanks

Monday, November 30, 2015

This week's blog is dedicated to the people I'm the most thankful for and the people I would not be in D.C. today without. I'm not saying that just because they're reading this blog. I really mean it. My family are the people that make being independent and seeing how much I've grown living on my own so joyous and also make leaving home so hard. I'm the type of person that needs their extra push to do things that scare me.

The End is Near

Sunday, November 22, 2015

And my last weekend in Washington D.C. is finally coming to a close. I'll still be here until December 11th like everyone else, however, next weekend I will be home for Thanksgiving and the following weekend I'll be in Arizona for my internship. I can't even begin to explain how crazy it is that this journey is almost over. It was everything I hoped it was going to be and more and I can't wait to get back on campus and tell everyone about it.

Tis the… Season?

Monday, November 16, 2015

Every year, I wait until the day after Thanksgiving to get into the Christmas spirit. The Christmas Season is by far my favorite time of year and I start looking forward to it the second school starts in the fall. Between the cold weather and stressful classes, I need a little Santa and Christmas music to get me by. In Washington D.C., however, it seems to start after Halloween. Although this is not what I'm used to, I am certainly not complaining. This weekend, I went to my first Christmas tree lighting of the year. It was at the National Harbor in Maryland.

Transitioning from Vacation to Home

Monday, November 09, 2015

Recently, I've been struggling to come up with things to write about in these blogs. At first, I was kind of bummed out because I felt like I was no longer making the most of my time here and kind of slacking on the tourist-like adventures. After thinking about it for a while though, I'm taking a different perspective. I'm taking the perspective that Washington D.C. is becoming a lot less of a place where I feel like I'm on vacation and a lot more of a place where I feel like I'm home living a normal day to day life.

Dupont? More like Dontpont

Happy belated Halloween everyone! This weekend was so busy I have no idea how I'm awake right now. Halloween in D.C. is definitely something everyone should experience. Like every year in college, Halloween is celebrated all weekend. There really was no difference between Friday and Saturday. We dressed up both days and overall had a great time.

The Mid-Semester Blues

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

There is something so weird about being away at a place for only one semester. The first three weeks, I was all over the place. I had the stress of trying to get adjusted to my new surroundings by making new friends and becoming comfortable at my internship. Then, for the next several weeks, I was able to really enjoy and take full advantage of my time here. That brings me to now. More than half way through the semester and 4 weeks away from Thanksgiving. It's crazy to think that I'll be going home in about a month and a half.

Where I Come From

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

What a busy week! Like every other week I worked Monday-Thursday. This week was different, however, because I had the anticipation of going home Friday on my mind. Monday was my normal crazy day where I have my internship followed by class. This Monday was even crazier though (in a good way) because after class, I got to go celebrate a friend's 27th birthday. It was nothing big, but a bunch of us got together in his apartment just to hang out and have cake. I missed the beginning because of class but I went straight after.
