Tuesday, March 03, 2015

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.

Greetings, everyone! This week I would like to introduce you to a great friend, fellow St. Lawrence classmate and volleyball teammate, Mariah Dignan. Mariah and I are here for the semester along with seven other St. Lawrence University students. We are all embracing very different living arrangements, internship responsibilities and weekend adventures. With a month under our belts, we now have a fairly good sense of the journey we will take during our next 12 weeks in DC.

The Romantic Redhead?

Sunday, February 15, 2015

Romance, romance, and more romance! Seems about right for the week of Valentine's Day, eh? Prior to my hectic week full of events, dates, and more, I made my first trip to Union Market with my friends Taylor and Ivo, whom you may remember from my first post. A happy, sunny, and quick 8-minute walk for me in 64 degree F weather last weekend was brightened even more when I entered the beautiful Union Market full of shops, a farmer's market and various restaurants.

Burning up, Befriending, and Baking

Let's just say Bex DID NOT avoid the strep throat outbreak cursing the 5th floor of NOMA this week. Fever, fatigue, tonsils the size of tennis was definitely not the way that I wanted to start my second full week in DC. I guess I should have known that I was doomed when the Patriots disgustingly won the Super Bowl on Sunday and I had to listen to my roommates (hardcore Patriots fans) quickly turn this smile upside down...

B-L-O-G-G-E-R, take care, TWC (The Washington Center)!   Well, as you can already tell with my little play on the ultimate groove-to song "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, I tend to have quite the creative personality. But, my roommates seem to be embracing my quirkiness after a mere week and a half of settling into our gorgeous apartment in Washington, DC. Below are two of my three roommates, Miranda and Mel.

America's Front Yard is My Backyard

Sunday, June 22, 2014

And I'm working to bring my backyard to America.   My backyard boasts over 200 years of history.  It was home to political rallies, presidential inaugurations, organized protests, and MLK's "I Have a Dream Speech".  Today, it's home to cherry blossoms, picnics, proposals, and legacies.

New York gets 40 million visitors a year and every one of them leaves with a story. I was no exception. Some friends and I decided last minute to visit New York for the weekend and what a strange trip it's been...   "There is something in the New York air that makes sleep useless." -- Simone de Beauvoir
