Brunch Abroad and Friends Abound

Brunch Abroad and Friends Abound

The week of March 10th included a fabulous Women in Peace and Security event at National Defense University, a trip to Canada via the Canadian Embassy, and a visit from a friend and fellow Sun Devil!

So remember the ball a couple weeks ago? Well, let’s just say it pays to be social! I met an extraordinary gentleman who invited me to the Women in Peace and Security event and while at the event personally introduced me to some incredible and influential women (possibly the next secretary of state?)! The event was a great success and I look forward to following up with the people I met. One woman that stood out the most was Wilma L. Vaught of the USAF, she was the first woman promoted to Brigadier General in the comptroller career field. She reminded me of what it means to be a strong woman and how not to let the politics of life prevent you from rising through the ranks. Simply meeting her was an honor.

Friday March 14th was another first among the many; I visited the Canadian Embassy. This was my first journey to any embassy and what a delightful experience! First of all, Canadians are awesome and very friendly. From the moment I walked in the door, I was treated like a friend. I was specifically the guest of a Canadian defense attaché colonel of whom I met at a national defense breakfast.  The event was filled with ambassadors, generals, colonels, doctors, and numerous other prestigious individuals. I wined and dined with some extraordinary people for most of the afternoon and left with many new important friends throughout the world!

Lastly, my dear friend Jose made the journey from Arizona to Washington D.C. with his family on Saturday March 15th. Needless to say, we visited all the monuments and buildings of interest but the most fun everyone had was probably on the Metro. After several hours of walking and sightseeing, we convened at Union Station for burgers and shakes. I am so happy to have had my first visitors and I cannot wait to see them all again!!!
