Farewell for Now

Sunday, December 22, 2013

A week has now passed since I packed up the car and left my time at TWC behind.  While I am still sad that such a wonderful experience had to come to an end, I'm extremely thankful that I was able to take part in so many amazing opportunities.  The people I met, the relationships I formed, and the experiences I had will stay with me for a lifetime.

The whole experience still feels so surreal to me. Here I sit, in my living room in Erie, PA, yet I feel as if I belong in D.C. In just a few short weeks, I fell in love with the city and felt right at home. I got to know the ins and outs of daily life, but there's still much more to explore and I can't wait to go back! I've already put applications in for summer internships!

Tick Tok

Monday, December 09, 2013

Done! With all homework that is. Not yet with D.C., thankfully. It is one of the best feelings to just be able to enjoy yourself without stressing about assignments and grades. That's why I was sure to finish all of my work before the weekend, so I could soak up as much fun as possible during my last weekend in the city.

Thankful for Thanksgiving

Monday, December 02, 2013

We're really getting down to the wire now. It seems as if all of a sudden everything is due! I'm definitely glad I got a jumpstart on my assignments before Thanksgiving or I'd be sweating bullets right now.

Football, Food and Friends

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

And my travels continue! I spent this past weekend in Blacksburg, VA at Virginia Tech University. You must be getting the idea that I hate D.C. or something, but quite the contrary! I am simply getting the most out of my time here.

What's the Date?

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Wait, it's November what? Time is flying by! It's hard to believe we only have a month left in the program. I'm just starting to really feel at home here and like a real member of the staff at my internship. I've been throwing around acronyms like a pro (and actually understanding what they mean) and building some great relationships with the staff and International Fellows at NDU. It will be a sad day when I have to say goodbye to everyone.

A Taste of Tennessee

Tuesday, November 05, 2013

Hey y'all! I can't tell you how many times I heard that in the past few days. My trip to Tennessee was a wonderful experience! The people we met and stayed with were all so welcoming and happy to have us visit. We got to learn about the civil rights movement and legislative process, but I also got to learn a lot more about our organization (the International Student Management Office at NDU) and the International Fellows in the program.

A Balancing Act

Monday, October 28, 2013

They really aren't kidding when they tell you at the beginning how fast the semester is going to fly by, especially with all of the different aspects of the program and D.C. events jammed in. Of course me being me and enjoying being busy, I didn't think anything of it at first. Well, I'm realizing now that they were absolutely right.

Family Fun

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

After two long (yet seemingly short) months away from home in D.C., last weekend was perfect timing for a visit from my family. Independence is a wonderful thing; getting to move into your own place and live your life however you want is great, but I don't think I'll ever outgrow that feeling of comfort when I'm with my family.

Back in Business

Thursday, October 17, 2013

I got what I wished for; this week was definitely busy! With the full staff back at work and assignment deadlines quickly approaching, there was no time to be bored.  Congress finally got its act together, too, and passed a bill to fully reopen the government. Now the city is back to its normal bustling self!
