In the Beginning...

In the Beginning...

Hi everyone! My name is Max Anderson and I am a rising senior Computer Information Systems (CIS) major at Delta State University. Delta State is located in Cleveland, Mississippi. My hometown, Indianola, Mississippi, is a small rural town of about 12,000 people. Indianola’s claim to fame is that it is the home of famous blues musician B.B. King.

I made the trip over here with very little difficulty. My planes all left on time and I took a Super Shuttle to the Residential and Academic Facility (RaF) at NoMa, which is where I will be staying the summer.

I met my roommates and proceeded to get acquainted with the area and buy the necessities I would need for the coming weeks. I had a lot of my stuff shipped so that I would not have a ton of luggage to carry around until I got to my apartment. If you have the opportunity to come to The Washington Center (TWC) and also ship a majority of your personal items, make sure to include more bedding than just sheets because I found out the hard way that the rooms are cold at night and was absolutely freezing my first night here.

Thursday and Friday morning consisted of a bunch of orientation activities that I won't bore you with and instead will go straight ahead to the fun parts of the weekend.

On Saturday, a group of new friends and I made the trip to the National Zoo. Although it was a lot of walking it was well worth it. My favorite exhibit was the Giant Panda exhibit. This is mainly because pandas are awesome and well...awesome. I mean, who doesn't like pandas?

On Sunday, a group of us made a trip to the National Aquarium and then went and looked at the White House.

I am sure this is just a taste of what is to come and I hope these blog entries will inspire more people in small southern towns to venture out and try the Washington Center program and others like it.
