One Last Hoorah!

Monday, August 12, 2013

Hey Y'all!   All right everyone, I am now writing to all of you from the comfort of MY bed back in beautiful state of South Carolina. Don't think that I've forgotten about you now that I've left D.C., but I still have a couple of things to share with you about my last days that round out my TWC and D.C. summer experience.

All Good Things

Sunday, August 04, 2013

It's here! My final week in D.C. has finally arrived and it's a very bittersweet moment. While I cannot wait to get home and see my friends and family, it will be weird to not be around the people that I've bonded with this summer, specifically my roommates. I have to give it to TWC for randomly placing four girls in an apartment together for three months and it going surprisingly well. As a way to sort of end our time together, I decided to cook us all Sunday dinner before commencement.   The Dinner

Match Point

Friday, August 02, 2013

I've never been one to get the urge to sit down and watch a tennis match. Sure they're interesting, but it takes me about 5 minutes until I lose focus completely and change the channel. However, the mindset  that tennis is pretty dry and monotonous was debunked when two of my roommates and I got tickets to see the Washington Kastles World Team Tennis Finals against the Springfield Lasers. It was a random idea to go see the Kastles play, but the $20 I spent on a ticket BY FAR exceeded my expectations.

"Do You Want To Fly?"

Friday, July 26, 2013

The great thing about living in D.C. is that you never really know where your day is going to take you! Just when you think your day is over you realize it is really just beginning. I'm going to take you through the series of events that happened to me this past Sunday that led to me flying... yes, I said flying!   1 p.m.-3 p.m. Ice Cream Overload

A few weeks ago some friends and I from work decided to make a trip to the National Zoo. We went primarily to see the pandas, because who doesn't like pandas -- am I right? So on this hot summer day we venture through the zoo and see some pretty epic animals, such as the cheetah and panda and the ever so patriotic Bald Eagle. We stayed clear of any other birds because I have a somewhat irrational fear of birds and my friends totally respected that, for which I will be eternally grateful.

I think y'all have waited long enough since my last post to find out where my final InternsROCK! experience took me! You heard about the wax museum and the cupcakes but now I'll tell you about my favorite place that I visited...(drum roll please)...the NEWSEUM.

Johnny Depp, Cupcakes, and....

Friday, June 28, 2013

Alright, now there are a lot of things that I love out of life, and the three that I'll be talking about today are Johnny Depp, cupcakes, and free stuff. Which is why, when TWC's InternsROCK! event started in the second week of June, I got really excited. Before you jump to conclusions and think that I got to eat cupcakes with Johnny Depp for free, that sadly did not happen -- but how awesome would that be?!

Yes...that JUST happened

My first week at my internship can be summed up as... AMAZING. I knew that working with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) as a public policy associate would consist of a lot of hard work, but also provide great exposure to how a grassroots organization is run. However, the experiences that I will have through AFSP will be as beneficial as all of the work I will be doing for the duration of the summer. One work related experience in particular will definitely go on my list of the coolest things I had the privilege of doing while here in D.C.

Can I Just Live In The Hirshhorn?

Monday, June 03, 2013

On the first Friday in D.C. I had to attend the Advocacy, Service, and Arts (ASA) program orientation, which basically consisted of finding out which other TWC interns were in the ASA program. We also heard from our program advisor Jacob Wilson -- who is awesome by the way -- about the different expectations for the summer (and to get our business cards... proof that we are legit businessmen/women).

I Seriously Do Not Have That Much Stuff

Saturday, June 01, 2013

Before I jump into telling you about the excitement of moving myself into my apartment at The Washington Center (TWC), let me first introduce myself. My name is Lindsey Gollach and I am a rising senior at Coker College, and this is where I now explain to you where Coker's located in a small town called Hartsville, South Carolina which is approximately 70 miles east of Columbia, South Carolina. For those of you who did not just Google the exact location of Hartsville, you get a gold star -- let's make that two because when I heard about it I had no clue.
