What I Should Have Done

What I Should Have Done

I've left D.C. and it's time to reflect on the things that I didn't do, but should have, or wanted to do. I've had 14 weeks to do a lot of stuff in D.C. I planned on doing so much, yet a lot of those plans never happened. I don't regret anything I did, but perhaps I regret not doing a couple of things.

Visiting More CitiesI planned on exploring the States during my stay, on going on adventures all over the east coast. Sadly, this didn't happen. I only made it to New York City for one weekend during those 14 weeks. And that trip was a big fail. It rained, and rained, and rained for the whole weekend, and it was freezing cold. Because of that we didn't really get to experience the city. Thank God it was not my last visit, because it was a bad representation of the city. Next to New York City, I really wanted to visit Baltimore, Richmond and Philadelphia. Because of homework, arrangements, etc. we never made it there. But I will be back one day to continue my discoveries and adventures in this great nation.

Visiting More MuseumsD.C. is rich in museums, and most of them are free. Why I didn't visit more museums, I have no idea. I visited a couple of them, like the National Air and Space Museum. Make sure to visit at least some of them. As a student, partying is a lot of fun, but try to wake up, even if it's only a couple of times, and visit a museum. There's a museum for everyone: art museums, a spy museum, history museums, etc.

See More NatureI'm pretty sure there are interesting outdoor places to visit in the D.C. area. I'm still disappointed that I couldn't participate in the TWC-visit to the Great Falls National Park. I got to experience the countryside of Maryland when we visited a horse farm with our Civic Engagement group, but I am convinced that there is more to discover.

Go on More Adventures I wish I took more time to go and explore the infamous side of D.C. and its surroundings. Just take a backpack in the morning and start walking, and walking, without knowing where you'll end up. I like doing that, and most of the time you'll discover some gorgeous places no one knows about.

Explore More Restaurants or Cook MoreD.C. has a lot of great restaurants, with food from all over the world. I should have tried more restaurants, and food from different cultures. I've been eating so unhealthily during my stay that I've been questioning what I'll do at home without Chipotle, Chili's, etc. I'll miss you Chipotle, I'll miss you.

On the other hand, I should have taken more time to cook. I should have tried different meals, and different recipes of the local foods.

These are the things that I wanted to do, but never got around to doing. Yet, I've had such an amazing time that I don't regret anything. It's been great, and I'll be back. I'll be back to finish my bucket list.
