You Can Never Escape Homework

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

This week was exhausting, but in a good way. There were assignments to due for my class, my internship had multiple tasks to carry out, and my civic engagement program had us participate in volunteer activities. My schedule went from nothing to do to swamped with work in a matter of 24 hours. Thankfully, most of the work was fairly simple, and I was able to complete it on time. Although I had to stay up late a few nights, I also had to get up early the following morning. I don't normally drink coffee, but desperate times call for desperate measures!

D.C. Can Get Crowded

Well the fourth week came and went, and I apologize for not keeping up with the blog as much as I should. Time is flying by faster than anticipated, and there is still a lot of work left to do. The weeks begin to mash together as I become more acclimated to my surroundings and responsibilities, and there are also events to attend outside The Washington Center as well. However, every week has its own defining characteristics that help to distinguish them from each other.

Thank You For Noodles

We now officially know that our smoke alarm works. After experimenting with different recipes in the kitchen, my roommates and I can attest that the fire alarm will definitely notify you when the food is done. We improved our problem-solving skills by quickly devising an ingenious plan to shut off that ungodly screech. It basically involved waving a towel over the sensor and praying to whatever deity would save us. It was crude, but effective.   When a House Becomes a Home

The program is now in full swing and I'm becoming more accustomed to my role as an intern. I'm carving a niche in my work zone which has created some awesome new experiences. I've also met some interesting new friends from all around the world.

Finding My Footing

Monday, February 04, 2013

As you sit in your chair and browse the Internet, take some time to consider why you are on The Washington Center's student blog site. If you're anything like me, then you are searching for entries that might answer your burning questions about the program. While I can't hope to answer your specific questions, perhaps my experiences can give you some sort of idea what to expect. With that said, my name is Zach and welcome to my blog! I will attempt to entertain you, charm you, and keep you coming back to read my entries.
