It's already October?!

I still cannot believe that it is already October! Halloween is just right around the corner. I have managed to fall in love with this city in a matter of weeks; I never want to leave! My friends and I decided we were in dire need of some Mexican food took a trip to Harris Teeter to gather the necessary ingredients. We ended up with a cart filled with all sorts of food for taco night. We got bell peppers, a ton of tortillas, avocados for guacamole and, of course, queso! The queso was nothing like queso in Texas but it worked. It was just the Tostitos-brand queso, so it was pretty good. My friends and I are still looking for a good Mexican restaurant in D.C. I will make sure to let you all know once we do. It looks pretty good, right?! I was impressed myself. It turns out that we bought way too much food...we had leftovers for days! But that was nice because it was a busy week at work!

The First Hearing

One of the many things I do in the newsroom is logging. I follow President Obama's speeches at rallies and debates. It is interesting to see the differences and similarities from rally to rally. But this week was a little different because on Wednesday there was a house committee hearing on what happened in Benghazi at the U.S. embassy. It started at noon and it was one of the most interesting events I have listened in on so far. There is still a lot of confusion as to just exactly what went wrong and who was responsible for what. There were a lot of questions that went unanswered. The entire hearing was so intriguing, though. It went on for about four and a half hours and I was never once bored. Every person had something interesting to say and there were a lot of great questions. It was, by far, one of my favorite events to log because I learned so much!

The VP Debate

Unfortunately, I was unable to work the overnight shift for the vice presidential debate Thursday because I had class at the Associated Press. My class is usually on Mondays but since it was a holiday we had it Thursday. Luckily, our professor wanted to watch the debate as well so she let us out in time to catch the metro back and watch some of it. I think the most interesting part of that debate was the Twitter sphere! The SNL skit was pretty hilarious, too.

TGIF

This weekend was pretty relaxing. I caught up on some much needed sleep! Saturday it was beautiful outside, a little chilly but sunny enough. Some of my friends were playing in a soccer game at the National Mall so a couple of us went over there to watch. We walked instead of taking the metro and stopped for coffee on the way. After the game Jeff, Jackson and I went to Georgetown to meet my friend Haley. Her mom and sister were in town visiting! First place we took them was of course a cupcake place, Baked and Wired. I got the unicorn cupcake again - it is like a funfetti cupcake; incredible. We did a little shopping afterward and I bought a great pair of brown boots for the fall. My good friend Emma's dad was also in town so Saturday we all went to dinner. We went to a place in Dupont Circle called the Darlington House. It is a town house converted into a restaurant and the Italian food is amazing! I got the infamous lasagna and it was delicious. It is a cute little place if you are looking for a great bowl of pasta!
