What Unusual Weather We're Having!
This week has not been quite as exciting as the last but I did still manage to have some fun!
DC seems to be having some freak warm streak lately (like we're talking upper 40's, low 50's) and it's not that I'm complaining, I'm just used to my New England weather. This weekend my roommates and I went over to the National Mall and went to the Smithsonian Museum of American History. One great thing about DC is that pretty much everything is free! As college students, we decided to take full advantage of that. I think my favorite parts of the museum were the Presidential and First Lady exhibits. They had all theses dresses from most of the first ladies and the china that they had picked out while they were in office.
Here I am in front of the Washington Memorial on the National Mall.
This week for our weekly TWC programing the Political Leadership Program had small group meetings about our Individual Development Plans (IDP's). Basically you're IDP is a chance to put all of your goals, academic, personal and otherwise, on paper so that you can see what you want to accomplish. We have to assess ourselves and write about our strengths and weaknesses in all different areas too. When you think about it, it doesn't seem that hard but it's actually extremely difficult.
We also talked about our Civic Engagement Projects. Each student is required to do 15 hours worth of work on an issue, both policy and activity oriented. Fortunately, TWC provides a few projects that are all set up for you, all you have to do is show up. I decided to do my own project, however, because I felt that I would get more out of the project by doing something I was particularly passionate about: Education Reform. I'm going to attend lectures and forums at the local Universities on education and then I've volunteered to tutor through the Washington DC Public Schools. I'm really looking forward to it so hopefully it works out!
Work this week has been pretty slow. The only thing that was noteworthy was that I got to meet our Chairwoman, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz! I was so nervous I couldn't really say anything but hopefully I made a good impression!
Well, that's all for this week; hopefully this weather keeps up!
