GALA 2009: in Service of a Nation

I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: The ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

presented by Ford Motor Company.

The Washington Center’s Gala 2009: In Service of a Nation recognizes the many ways in which individuals can impact nations and society through civic engagement, one of the organization’s three pillars. It pays tribute to the democratic principles that the power of a nation lies within the handsof its citizens and that participation is both the promise and responsibility of citizenship. It will honor special individuals who have devoted their lives to the service of their fellow citizens for the betterment of our society. Among the awardees will be some whose contributions have enriched The Washington Center’s programs this year, especially our PoliticalLeadership Program; Advocacy, Service, and Arts Program; “Presidential Inauguration” seminar; and “The Obama Presidency: First 100 Days” seminar.

Gala 2009 will take place at the renowned National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., a prominent and vital venue for informed, reasoned debate about the built environment and its impact on people’s lives.

Proceeds from Gala 2009 will provide essential program support and scholarships that make our program accessible to students regardless of their backgrounds. We thank Ford Motor Company for being the presenting sponsor of Gala 2009: In Service of a Nation.
