Gala 2008: Engaging Voices in a Time of Change

The Washington Center’s Gala 2008: Engaging Voices in a Time of Change recognizes the importance of conversations and discourse through all forms of media and evolving digital citizen networks. It pays tribute to the democratic principle that knowledge, opinions and ideas must safely flow in the public forum. It will honor special individuals who have devoted their lives promoting civic participation for the betterment of society.

Among the awardees will be some whose contributions have enriched The Washington Center’s programs, especially our Mass Communications Program, “Politics and the Media Seminar, In Pursuit of the Presidency Seminar,” and our “National Political Convention Seminars” during the presidential election year. Gala 2008 will take place in the newly-opened Newseum, the world’s most interactive museum, located in the District of Columbia, United States. The Newseum will provide an exciting setting and an especially appropriate venue for the evening’s theme.

Proceeds from Gala 2008 will provide essential program support and scholarships that make our program accessible to students regardless of their backgrounds. We thank Ford Motor Company for being the presenting sponsor of Gala 2008: Engaging Voices in a Time of Change.
