International Students Overview

Thirteen years ago The Washington Center embarked on a major campaign to welcome international students and young professionals to a transformative semester in Washington DC. Since then, almost 2,000 international students from more than 30 countries have participated in our programs. Young people from every part of the world including Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, France, Italy, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and Russia have all benefited from the integrated internship and academic program experience offered by The Washington Center.

Our international participants have the opportunity to learn first-hand about Washington’s business and political culture by becoming part of the city for one semester. You can select from among the many new ideas and “best practices” you experience and bring these ideas back home to share. Young people can visit not only the White House, the U.S. Congress and Supreme Court but famous think tanks and international institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank.

You can network with top professionals in your field, and meet your counterparts from the United States and all over the world. You will be working 37 hours a week, getting a head-start preparing for your career, but you also will be exposed to all the wonderful museums, restaurants, parks and international culture that is Washington DC. The Washington Center provides you with an Orientation, counseling and attractive, conveniently-located housing and also organizes educational and recreational activities for our participants. We are excited to welcome you as you begin your exciting journey.
