Cost and Financial Assistance
University Arrangements
Students attending The Washington Center earn academic credit from their college or university for their internships. They are therefore usually eligible to receive their usual federal and state financial aid, up to the cost of attendance, through the institution granting the credit, if their own resources are not sufficient to cover the cost of attendance. Students who anticipate their costs may be higher when participating in our program than when they are in residence at their home institution, may want to request a recalculation of their financial need. Students should seek guidance from professionals in the university’s financial aid office as they are a great resource, and the earlier these professionals become involved on a student’s behalf, the better.
Many colleges and universities help students by ensuring that they are not “double billed” (charged both tuition and The Washington Center’s program and housing fees).
Here are a number of common scenarios:
- Individual student pays regular tuition and housing fees to their home institution. The home institution forwards The Washington Center program and housing fees to The Washington Center.
- Individual student pays regular tuition to their home institution. The home institution forwards The Washington Center program fee. The student is still responsible for paying the housing fee to The Washington Center.
- Home institution waives regular tuition for the student. The student is responsible for paying both The Washington Center program fee and the housing fee.
- Home institution collects regular tuition for the student, which is less than The Washington Center program fee. The institution collects the balance and forwards both the tuition and additional cost to The Washington Center. Student is then responsible for paying the housing fee directly.
- Home institution waives partial tuition fees for the student. The student is responsible for paying the remaining tuition to their home institution and paying The Washington Center’s program and housing fees.
