Cost and Financial Assistance

State & Commonwealth Funding

The following states or commonwealths provide assistance to qualifying students attending The Washington Center . For current eligibility criteria and amounts of assistance, please see the links below. Support may be subject in some cases to final budget approval.

Please note that state funds may not be available to those attending the Sophomore Exploration, Postgraduate Professional Development or Intern Abroad Programs.

Alabama

We’re pleased to announce a limited number of scholarships available to applicants attending public institutions in Alabama.  Please contact info@twc.edu for the most up-to-date information about the available financial assistance.

Arkansas

Applicants attending Arkansas institutions may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:

  • Students from public institutions:
    Spring semester: $6,000
    Summer term: $6,000
    Fall semester: $6,000

  • Students from private institutions:
    Spring semester: $4,000
    Summer term: $4,000
    Fall semester: $4,000

Eligibility:
Students must be residents of Arkansas to receive this funding.

This award may be used for any of the intern abroad programs.

Connecticut

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Summer term: $1,500

Eligibility:
This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.
The award above is contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

Delaware

Applicants attending public institutions in Delaware may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Spring semester: $6,000
Summer term:  $6,000
Fall semester:  $6,000

Eligibility:
Students must attend Delaware State University.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

$2,000 of this financial assistance award is contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

Florida

Applicants attending four-year public institutions in Florida may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Spring semester: $5,000
Summer term: $4,500
Fall semester: $5,000

Eligibility:
Students must attend four-year public institutions in Florida.

This award may be used for any of the intern abroad programs.

$1000 (in summer term) or $1500 (in fall or spring semesters) of this financial assistance award is contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

Iowa

Applicants attending public institutions in Iowa may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:

Students from public institutions:
Spring semester: $1,200
Summer term: $1,200
Fall semester: $1,200

 


Eligibility:
Students must be residents of Iowa and attend Iowa State University, the University of Iowa or the University of Northern Iowa.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

Kentucky

Applicants attending public institutions in Kentucky may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Students must attend a four-year state university.

This award may be used for any of the intern abroad programs.

$1,000 of this assistance is contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

Maryland


The Honorable Pete Rawlings Washington Center Scholarship Fund

The late Howard “Pete” Rawlings, member of the Maryland House of Delegates and chair the House Budget Committee, left many lasting legacies of his work, one of which is a scholarship program for Maryland students.  This scholarship program began in 1999 and was named in Delegate Rawlings’ honor in 2006 for his extensive work on higher education and civic student engagement.

Applicants attending institutions in Maryland may be eligible for state-based financial assistance. Award amounts for all remaining terms in 2008, as well as eligibility criteria, are summarized below.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:

  • Students from public colleges, universities and selected community colleges:
    Spring semester: $6,500
    Summer term: $6,500
    Fall semester: $6,500

    Eligibility:
    Students must attend four-year public colleges and universities, or selected community colleges, in Maryland . They must also be residents of Maryland.

    This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

$2000 of the above financial assistance is contingent upon the student staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

  • Students from selected private institutions:
    Spring semester: $3,300
    Summer term: $3,300
    Fall semester: $3,300

    Eligibility:
    Students must be from selected private colleges and universities. They must also be residents of Maryland.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

Massachusetts

Applicants attending four-year public institutions in Massachusetts may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Spring semester: $5,000
Summer term: $5,500
Fall semester: $5,000

Eligibility:
Students must attend four-year public institutions in Massachusetts. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and must be residents of Massachusetts.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

In the spring and fall semesters, $1300 of this financial assistance is contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

Also in the fall and spring semesters, eligible students' tuition and fees are waived on their home campuses.

Mississippi

New Jersey

All applicants attending institutions in New Jersey may be eligible for state-based financial assistance
(See note below regarding The Richard Stockton University).

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Spring semester: $1,000
Summer term: $1,000
Fall semester: $1,000

Eligibility:
Students attending any institution in New Jersey may receive these awards.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

Students attending The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey are eligible, by arrangement with the university, to receive a $2,550 award for the semester and $1700 for the summer term.

All of the above awards are contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.

North Dakota

Applicants attending North Dakota institutions may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Spring semester: $5,000
Summer term: $5,000
Fall semester: $5,000

Eligibility:
Students must be U.S. citizens and should visit the ND Department of Commerce website to obtain a form that must be completed. Recent grads are eligible to receive this funding to participate in the Postgraduate Professional Development Program.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

Ohio

Applicants attending institutions in Ohio may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:
Spring Semester: $3,500
Fall Semester: $3,500
Summer Term and Winter/Spring/Fall Quarters: $2,800

Eligibility:
Students must attend selected public or private colleges and universities; the scholarships available may be limited and awarded at the institution's discretion.

In the spring and fall semesters, $1,300 of this financial assistance is contingent upon the student's staying in Washington Center housing and will be applied to the student's housing bill.
In the summer and winter/spring/fall quarters, $1,000 is deducted from the housing bill.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

Oklahoma

Applicants attending selected public institutions in Oklahoma may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Rogers State University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University each have state-provided scholarship funds for students attending The Washington Center. The recipients and amounts of the scholarships awarded are decided by the institutions.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.

Pennsylvania

Applicants attending institutions in Pennsylvania may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Award amounts for all terms in 2010:

  • Students from selected public institutions:
    Spring semester: $5,500
    Summer term: $5,500
    Fall semester: $5,500

    Eligibility:
    Students must attend Pennsylvania State University System institutions or other selected public colleges and universities.
  • Students from selected private institutions:
    Spring semester: minimum of $3,000
    Summer term: minimum of $3,000
    Fall semester: minimum of $3,000

    Eligibility:
    Students must attend selected private colleges and universities; the scholarships available may be limited and awarded at the institution's discretion.

This award may be used for any of the intern abroad programs.

Tennessee

Applicants attending four-year public Tennessee Board of Regents institutions may be eligible for state-based financial assistance.

Eligibility:
Students must attend Austin Peay State University, East Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University, Tennessee State University or The University of Memphis.

This award is currently not available for students participating in any of the intern abroad programs.
