Who’s Who in Institutional Relations

You may know us only by our email addresses or voices over the phone, but we all hope to assist you in bringing internship opportunities to your students. Here, for your reference, is a little about each individual’s background and primary role in our department.

Dr. Joseph Johnston, Senior Vice President

Responsibility: Joe serves as senior vice president of The Washington Center and leads the Institutional Relations Department. In part, his responsibility is to develop and maintain relationships with colleges and universities using or considering TWC’s services. He is also responsible for the overall marketing and student recruitment efforts for the institution. In addition, Joe directs a team of professional staff overseeing the operations of TWC’s enrollment services.

Responsibility: Karen manages the student application and acceptance process as well as the reporting of grades back to campus following your students’ completion of our program. She also coordinates the revision of our viewbook and other promotional materials each summer.

Responsibility: Brian manages the recruitment effort, the disbursement of financial assistance, and the overall daily functioning of IR. In addition, he serves on several cross-departmental committees in order to communicate any of your concerns to our colleagues—including program advisors, finance staff, etc.

Sara Clement, Manager, Institutional Relations

Responsibility: Along with Brian, Sara manages the recruitment effort and coordinates our communication flow to prospective students. In addition to traveling to a large number of campuses each fall and spring, Sara assists with updates to our website and promotional materials and focuses on new marketing efforts.

Heather Hendy, Senior Program Coordinator, Institutional Relations

Responsibility: Heather takes a special responsibility for coordinating the intern abroad programs in London, Oxford and Sydney. She also assists with general enrollment and IR duties, particularly the training of staff recruiters.

Responsibility: Along with general IR duties, Katie serves as our financial aid counselor and manages our targeted outreach for Washington Center scholarships and federal programs.

Responsibility: Patsy works with your students as they are submitting their applications to confirm the receipt of materials, organize applicants’ files and enter their data into our online system. She also assists Karen with the mailing of grades to your campus.

Responsibilities: Carolyn—former liaison at the University of New Hampshire—has worked with us for several years. Visiting numerous colleges and universities each fall and spring, she helps with recruitment and assists institutions interested in affiliation.
