Liaison Tips
Resources and tips for generating student interest
Once on the site, students should visit the Prospective Students section. This section is designed to help students understand our program and the opportunities it provides. It will answer their frequently-asked questions and keep them abreast of the latest scholarship opportunities and deadlines. While on the site, students can also read first-hand accounts by clicking on our student blogs or by viewing the current and past issues of The Washington Center’s Newsletter for Prospective Students.
Promotional Materials
At the beginning of each academic year you will receive a package of our annually updated materials, including:
- Viewbooks – our largest and most detailed publication for prospective interns
- Multi-folds– student brochures, which contain a postage-paid return mailer
- Bookmarks – another give-away for interested students
- Posters – for display on bulletin boards and in common areas on campus, featuring a space for liaison contact information
- DVDs – intern-created video to play at information sessions and to show interested students (also accessible on the TWC homepage)
To receive additional materials please write to info@twc.edu or complete and fax the materials request form located in the Documents and Forms section of this webpage.
Email Communications from TWC
Email is the most effective way for us to educate interested students about our programs. We collect student emails when we visit campuses by inviting interested students to sign up for further information. You may also want to direct interested students to complete our Request for Information at: http://www.twc.edu/request_info.shtml
Hold one or more Information Sessions
Many liaisons find it helpful to hold an information session or two during each semester to introduce the program and answer questions from students. The video can be a helpful tool in these sessions, and if you provide us with students’ contact information we will be sure to follow-up on their interest.
Campus Listserv(s)
It’s often effective to send a mass e-mail through the various campus listserv to students and/or faculty and include the link to our student webpage within the message. Be sure to direct students to the pdf of our viewbook (under Documents and Forms in the Prospective Student section). The Institutional Relations staff would be happy to tailor and draft student-ready messages for you at anytime.
Student Groups and Organizations
We suggest that you publicize The Washington Center to various student organizations such as your College Democrats/Republican chapters, student government association, honors program, etc.
Develop a TWC webpage and/or link from existing sites
Many liaisons also find it helpful to develop a page on their website designated for Washington Center information, or, at the least, make sure The Washington Center is represented on pages that describe internships and other off-campus opportunities. These sites allow you to direct students to institution specific information about how the program operates at your institution, including credit arrangements/registration procedures, costs, examples of past internships, etc.
