All prospective Washington Center interns are required to have the approval of their campus liaison (students at unaffiliated schools are required to secure the approval of a campus sponsor). By approving applications, you are verifying that the appropriate individual(s) on your campus have reviewed the application and endorse the student’s candidacy for The Washington Center internship program. Your approval also certifies that the student will be receiving academic credit for this internship experience, that you are serving as a campus liaison for the student for the duration of the program, and that you (or the primary liaison) will receive all evaluations for the student. If students are completing the hard copy application, liaisons will need to physically sign the application in order to approve the student for acceptance. We recommend, however, that you encourage students to complete the online version of the application – in fact, over 70% of applicants now use the online version. When students use the online version of the application they are instructed to enter your contact information into the system. Students are reminded before and during the application to consult with their liaison and instructed that many liaisons will not approve their application until students print them a copy for their review. The online application system will send you an email requesting your approval. The email will contain the student’s name, contact information and the term for which he or she is applying. When you are ready to approve the student’s candidacy, you simply reply to the email stating that you approve the student’s application for admission. We will automatically notify you via email of the acceptance of your student into the program. The time required for acceptance process ranges from a few hours to approximately two weeks depending on the time of the year and number of applications being processed.
