TWC interns will have an opportunity to learn more from our guest speaker, Dr. Nicole Bates, who is the global strategy lead for Vaccines and Child Health Advocacy at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Their work includes polio eradication, new vaccine introduction, routine immunization, pneumonia, enteric & diarrheal disease, water/sanitation/hygiene, and neglected infectious diseases.

 

Prior to joining the foundation, Dr. Bates was the Director for Government Relations at the Global Health Council, the world's largest global health professional membership association. She previously worked on Capitol Hill on domestic health and social issues for Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA). She began her career in the Chronic Disease Center at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

 

Dr. Bates holds a doctorate of public health (DrPH) and Master's of Public Health (MPH) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her undergraduate work with high honors from the University of Virginia.
