Not all internships are equally valuable. The Washington Center prepares you to compete in the global economy by providing you access to Washington, D.C.’s best organizations and leaders, while enhancing the practical skills you’ll need in your career. When you return home, you’ll be better equipped as an employee, as an informed member of society, and as a young leader eager to excel in the global marketplace.
Internships here are worthwhile.Through TWC’s connections to more than 1,000 internship sites, you’ll have access to myriad opportunities that suit nearly any major, interest area, or career goal. The work you do will be valuable, mostly non-clerical, and stand out to employers back home.
TWC offers strong academics. The internship is complemented by highly-academic programming. Most students are awarded academic credit by their home institutions.
Students get special access to distinguished speakers. Throughout your program you’ll have unique opportunities to interact with world leaders and great thinkers from the public, private and nonprofit sectors. You also often have insider’s access to Washington institutions such as tours of leading organizations and Capitol Hill.
Special opportunities for students from abroad.Working with partners, TWC has created several programs that are specifically designed for students from outside the U.S. Some are structured so that international students can learn alongside students from the U.S., enlarging their world view and learning from others’ lives and experiences.
Housing is provided. Interning with The Washington Center is great life experience, because living in Washington, D.C., is like nothing else in the world. This is the epicenter, the crossroads of national and international policymakers, media organizations, cultural institutions, think-tanks and nonprofits. Something new and exciting happens here every day!
Housing in comfortable apartments is guaranteed for all TWC interns who request it. In addition, you’ll be supported by 140 professional staff, associate faculty and resident assistants. Cultural outings and unique experiences are organized through Student Life and in each program area and you can explore on your own. It’s easy to go anywhere you want using the Metro, D.C.’s easily accessible public transit system, and you’ll want to go everywhere! Washington, D.C., offers lots to do and see all around town: incredible museums and galleries, cultural and sporting events, recreation and outdoor activities, and great restaurants and nightlife. The entire city is right outside your front door.
The Washington Center’s program is more than an internship; it is an unparalleled learning experience. In the programs, students gain the skills needed for entry-level employment and prepare for lives of achievement, engagement and leadership.
