Tennessee Students Meet Senators Corker and Alexander

TWC interns from Tennessee met with the Honorable Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander, two U.S. Senators from Tennessee, at their weekly Constituents breakfast.

The TWC students, who attend Furman University, Austin Peay State University and Tennessee Technological University, spoke with the Senator’s staff members about various concerns and policy issues concerning Tennessee’s recent No Child Left Behind waiver policies. The students learned more about the Senators positions on the budget, taxes and education.

TWC intern, Vince Calvo of Austin Peay State University, felt that he better understood “why it is often difficult for veterans associations to receive help from the government. Based on the sheer volume of issues that our policymakers have to take into account, it became clear that balancing veterans into the mix (or any other non-profit organization) is a hard task to undertake.” Amanda Michalski, a TWC intern from Furman University, felt that “this unique experience made me realize how informed the legislative aids are and how capable they are of answering questions.”
