Jose Calzada, the Governor of the Mexican state Queretaro, visited The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) on February 27, 2012 and met with students in the Governors Program. The students presented a video showcasing the types of projects, internships, and activities that students from the Governor’s state are completing to improve their communities. Four students were selected to present their projects:
- Sebastián Romo Calderón presented his project,“Creaπivity,” which focuses on discovering and developing talent among children to produce the next generation of leaders. This project uses an innovative approach in a variety of programs, from matching each child with professional executives to designing workshops about engineering, science, and art.
- Pamela Ogando Souffront, presented her project on "Financial Literacy for Children."
- Manuel Alejandro Gutiérrez Ayech presented his project, "Greenhouse Mitigation in the State of Queretaro."
- Perla Ríos Cárdenas presented her project, "Organic Certification for Farmers in the State of Queretaro," which aims to offer technical assistance to small and midsize farmers in the municipalities of San Joaquin and Cadereyta. The goal is to connect local production with international markets.
Governor Calzada encouraged the students to take advantage of their time while at TWC. “This opportunity is unparalleled because it will completely transform each and every one of you,” he said.
