Greg Selinger, Premier of Manitoba, was the featured guest of a special Sunday Public Policy Dialogues on Capitol Hill (PPDCH) event. The PPDCH events are part of The Washington Center's Internship Programs. More than 60 students, both international and domestic, attended his presentation at TWC's Residential Academic Facility, where the premier spoke on the topic of the role of subnational governments around the world. He also addressed challenges such as:
- Food Security
- Energy
- Manitoba-U.S. Relations
Premier Selinger was accompanied by his team, including Nammi Poorooshasb, TWC alumnus of the NAFTA program (’01), who leads the Government of Manitoba's Cabinet Communications team. André Boisclair, Québec Delegate General in New York, and Peter Rose, Acting Director of the Québec Government Office in D.C., were also in attendance.
In addition to his speech, the Premier took several questions from students, most of which sought his opinion on social and domestic issues facing Manitoba. While Canadian students asked questions focused more on Canadian issues, students from the U.S. asked challenging questions about how the province of Manitoba interacts with the rest of the world in regards to trade, production, immigration, and foreign policy.
