The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) is excited to announce a new partnership with the United States-New Zealand Council [1] in Washington, D.C., an independent body dedicated to promoting strong bilateral relations between the United States and New Zealand.
On November 19th, two students from Canterbury University [2] and two students from the University of Victoria [3] arrived in Washington, D.C. to attend a fully funded winter semester in the U.S. as part of the TWC-New Zealand Congressional Initiative.
This initiative is made up of an internship with the Friends of New Zealand Congressional Caucus [4] at U.S. Congressional offices as well as participation in an Academic Seminar focused on the Inauguration of the 44th U.S. President [5], taking place from January 12-22nd. During the seminar, the four New Zealand students will be given the opportunity to witness U.S. political history in action, build a professional network and interact with nationally recognized figures like politicians, party activists, journalists, policy experts, and campaign professionals.
The Washington Center-New Zealand Congressional Initiative was established a year after the Christchurch Earthquake of February 22, 2011 by the Honorable Mike Moore, New Zealand Ambassador to the U.S., Bill Maroni, President of the U.S.-N.Z. Council, and the United States Congress.
TWC-New Zealand Congressional Initiative participants are:
Clark Hennessy – interning at the office of Rep. Mike Coanway (R-TX) [6]
Laura de Haan – interning at the office of Rep. George Miller (D–CA) [7]
Rachael Harris – interning at the office of Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) [8]
