WASHINGTON, D.C.–March 28, 2011–The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars mourns the passing of Hon. Geraldine Ferraro.  As a board member and mentor, Ferraro was dedicated to working with and inspiring the next generation of political leaders in Washington through a variety of TWC programs and speaking engagements.

“As the first women on a major political ticket, Ferraro’s impact on American politics is a legacy that is indelible,” said Mike Smith President of The Washington Center. “Each time she spoke to our students–you could see how she inspired many of them to pursue a career in public service. As a historical figure and as a good friend to The Washington Center, we mourn her passing.” Congresswoman Ferraro served as the inaugural guest speaker for The Washington Center’s Women As Leaders seminar series more than 20 years ago.
