Hometown: Lethbridge, Alberta
Hometown University: University of Lethbridge
Major: International Management
Internship Site: AMIDEAST
My name is Layla, and I am from Canada (Lethbridge, Alberta, to be more precise, but all I have been getting for the past week have been blank stares — Canada is much easier to find on the map!). I attend the Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge where I study International Management. My days are filled with group projects, readings, and an unreasonable amount of cheat days — especially when it comes to desserts. I am currently the Director of Events for the Management Students’ Society where I work to bring different events, both fun and professional, to the management students.
Over the past four years, I have been fortunate enough to take part in a variety of different cultural and educational exchanges. From a summer session in Spain, to a semester exchange in Ecuador, I enjoy learning and experiencing new cultures. Now in Washington, D.C., I am excited to explore the city and its monuments, museums, and various outdoor activities!
My first couple days of my internship at AMIDEAST have me excited for the upcoming ten weeks. Not only is the process of getting to the internship fun (the metro never fails to disappoint me), but at my internship I am surrounded by a team of inclusive leaders who treat me as more than just an intern. This experience at an international non-profit organization will allow me to build my professional network, help me to gain more international experience for my pursuits, and will help me to become an international immigration lawyer.
