The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) dedicated Friday, October 25th to honoring global citizens and the diversity of its student body with two major events: Global Citizenship Day and the International Festival.

Global Citizenship Day was sponsored by the Prudential Foundation and consisted of a keynote address and individual workshops to enhance TWC interns' cross-cultural skills. October 25th ended with the International Festival, which provided current students who represented a variety of countries with the opportunity to showcase their heritage and traditions through food, art, and dance.

TWC was excited to celebrate its 10th International Festival, which consists of a number of diverse activities from students, such as dance performances, international cuisine, and a talent show.

In this semester alone, 134 of the over 350 TWC fall interns came from 16 different countries outside of the U.S., including:

  1. Belgium
  2. Brazil
  3. Canada
  4. China
  5. Columbia
  6. Gibraltar
  7. India
  8. Japan
  9. Kazakhstan
  10. Mexico
  11. The Netherlands
  12. Puerto Rico
  13. Russia
  14. South Korea
  15. Taiwan
  16. Turkmenistan

Events like these illustrate the strong emphasis TWC places on global citizenship skills, celebrating diversity, as well as embracing multicultural perspectives. Not only is this type of world view relevant in Washington, D.C., a city driven by the work of groups and individuals from across the globe, but it is also becoming increasingly important for young professionals from around the world to have the multicultural knowledge and skills that will help them navigate the constantly evolving global marketplace.
