Another cohort of students from The Washington Center took the next step - completing the 15 week spring 2016 semester.

Spring intern Francesca Collins recited an original poem to start off the commencement ceremony. Collins, a journalism major at Elon University, was one of 21 students nominated to audition for a role in Commencement and one of three students selected. Collins interned at The Daily Caller and participated in the Media and Communication professional track.

Following remarks from TWC President Mike Smith, several students were recognized for their achievements this semester with an award presentation:

• Emerging Leadership – Minseok Kim

• Global Citizenship – Riddhi Bajaj

• Innovation – Yewon Seo

• Professional Growth – Mikaela Meyer

Commencement closed with an address from international student Minseok Kim. For Kim, a student at the University of Seoul, South Korea, coming to D.C was a chance to get real world experience in participate in a cultural exchange that will change the trajectory of his career. That didn’t come without it’s challenges.

“When I first came here, I felt extremely intimidated because of my english proficiency and because this was so different than where I go to school. But 15 weeks later, I’m standing here with the confidence to deliver a commencement address to my peers. This last 15 weeks changed my life.”
