Nearly 60 liaisons, administrators, and faculty members from 48 institutions around the country attended The Washington Center's (TWC) 2014 Liaison Institute. This was the second time the weekend-long event has been offered since the inaugural Liaison Institute in 2011. Months of preparation went into planning and coordination of the agenda and logistics, and TWC appreciates the support of the following Liaison Advisory Board members who provided assistance:

The two-day program featured a variety of presentations from liaisons, TWC staff members, current spring 2014 students, and internship site supervisors, as well as an evening reception. “We felt that it was extremely important for participants to hear from and engage with a variety of stakeholders.” said Vice President Brian Feeley. “Through past events, we've seen that there is a great deal that liaisons can learn from one another and bring back to their home institutions.”

Participants in the Liaison Institute learned about a variety of TWC-related topics, including:

  • Orientation
  • Internship Advising Sessions
  • Civic Engagement Projects
  • Academic Seminars
  • Recruitment Best Practices
  • Social Media/Marketing Strategies
  • Fundraising
  • Program Self-Study

Overall, the event was very productive. Participants connected with peers and TWC to share best practices and discuss challenges they have on their own campuses. We look forward to hosting the next Liaison Institute in spring 2015, and dates will be confirmed soon.
