The Washington Center's New York Alumni Regional Community kicked off its first ever Pay it Forward event in the financial district of New York City at the Popular Community Bank’s NYC headquarters. The Pay it Forward event brought together over 50 established and new alumni, upcoming fall 2013 students as well as friends of TWC.

Engaged Alumni

Brian Doran, Region Executive, New York Metro Region and Director of Governmental Affairs for Popular Community Bank, started the night off by welcoming TWC alumni to the event and sharing his dedication to the mission of TWC with the group. Popular Community Bank has been a long-standing partner of TWC for the last 20 years, supporting The Córdova & Fernós Program, which provides opportunities for 40 students each year from Puerto Rico to spend a semester in Washington, D.C. through TWC. Brian also introduced Mary Ehrsam, CEO of Operation HOPE, a partner organization of Popular Community Bank that focuses on financial literacy.

Gordon Hallas, TWC Alumni Advisory Board Chair, shared his enthusiasm for future NYC-ARC events and introduced key note speaker, Patrick Ignozzi, 1990 TWC alumnus, who is currently the Vice President of ABC Daytime Programming at ABC TV Network. He provided remarks on hard work, determination and learning from mistakes. Patrick touched on his experience here at TWC and how the program helped ignite his passion for media and how he transitioned from NBC to ABC. At the end of the event, TWC raffled two tickets to the upcoming Gala on October 7th in Washington, D.C. The two lucky alumni winners were: Erick Espinoza ('09, '10) and Sara Tye (‘06).
