Rep. Steve Chabot, an Ohio Republican, opened his doors on Tuesday, November 19th to TWC students from his district. Rep. Chabot represents Ohio's 1st District, which encompasses Warren County, western Cincinnati and its suburbs.

The students, who attend the University of Cincinnati and the University of Toledo, spoke with their Member of Congress about:

  • Getting a start in politics
  • The day-to-day experiences of a Congressman Bipartisanship
  • The government shutdown

When asked about the visit, University of Cincinnati student Bradley Robbins said, "I thought that the dialogue was extremely informative. The Congressman was very congenial and relatable. He definitely helped to put the idea of being a representative into perspective, highlighting the difficulties of juggling duties in D.C. and in the home district. Rep. Chabot seemed like a really down-to-earth person."

For the students, this visit was another way to understand the role of citizen advocacy and to demonstrate how one-on-one and small group conversations with their elected representatives can affect public policy changes at the highest level.

Students who participated in this visit included:

Public Policy Dialogues (PPD), sponsored by the Verizon Foundation, provide students with the unique opportunity to meet and interact with members of the Senate or House of Representatives representing their state or congressional district. This is one component of The Washington Center's internship program.
