New York Student Meets Rep. Zeldin

Recently, Elon University student Megan Finn had the chance to speak one-on-one with her Member of Congress, Lee Zeldin. Rep. Zeldin, a New York Republican, represents the 1st District and sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Veteran's Affairs Committee. He is serving his first term in Congress.


Megan and the Congressman discussed various issues, including veterans issues, his entry into the legal profession and any advice he may have for the students in that realm.

"One of the highlights of my experience at TWC was being able to have a one-on-one meeting with the congressional representative from my district. It was so exciting to be immersed in the life of a U.S. Congressman while visiting Rep. Zeldin's office on Capitol Hill. Having a personal conversation with him was such an unforgettable opportunity that I thought I never would have had before attending The Washington Center."

This visit was another way to understand the role of citizen advocacy and to demonstrate how one-on-one and small group conversations with elected representatives can affect public policy changes at the highest level. The students in attendance were:
