On Tuesday, October 27th, Quinnipiac University student Robert Timpa met his hometown Member of Congress, Rep. Steve Israel. Israel, a Democrat, represents New York's 3rd District, which encompasses northern Nassau County, northwest Suffolk County, and part of Queens. He sits on the Appropriations, House Armed Services, and House Financial Services committees.

They discussed the current state of foreign affairs, cheifly in the Middle East. Both Robert and Rep. Israel hold an interest in Middle Eastern politics, and the two discussed developments in the Middle East, the Arab Spring, and other areas of mutual interest. This visit was another way to understand the role of citizen advocacy and to demonstrate how one-on-one and small group meetings with elected representatives can affect public policy changes at the highest level.
