The "Paying It Forward" reception brought together alumni from the The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), the Fulbright Program and the State Department's International Visitor Leadership Programs. The event was hosted in Montréal, Canada in the beautiful Arts Council Room at McGill University on September 19th.

Andrew C. Parker, U.S. Consul General in Montreal, and Pilar Mendiola-Fernandez, TWC's Chief International Officer and Senior Vice President for Advanced Leadership Programs, hosted close to 80 alumni ranging across the three different programs. University liaisons, who help make TWC's program a possibility for many Canadian students interested in experiential education opportunities in Washington, D.C., were also in attendance.

For many of the alumni present, this was their first reunion with the TWC family since they took part in TWC's North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Leaders program in the 1990s. For others, this was an opportunity to extend and continue their Washington, D.C. experience from this summer. Consul General Parker highlighted the importance of these exchange programs in building strong relationships between two countries that share a border and celebrate one of the the closest and most extensive bilateral relationships in the world. Chief International Officer Mendiola-Fernandez highlighted the importance of partners who make transformational experiences possible for our students. She ended by asking alumni to "pay it forward" and encouraged others to take a leap in their professional and personal lives.

Attendees caught up with old friends and networked with a group of very successful and active members of the Montréal community who work in sectors of government, media, academics and business community.
